There is a new box tops challenge from now until the end of this school year.  We are calling it countdown to summer.  Ask your math teacher for a fom and collect 25 box tops for education before school is out.  Every student completing one will receive a prize and will be in a drawing for bigger prizees.  So start collecting now!

Below are two new easy ways to support Coyle Middle School!

1.  Clip - Clip box tops from hundreds of participating General Mills products and send them to school with your child and give them to your math teachers.

2.  Shop - Shop your favorite on-line stores (there are over 200 to choose from, like Barnes and Noble, Land's End, and KBToys) at the Box Tops Marketplace.  First, log on to boxtops4education.com and sign up to be a member of the Box Tops Booster Club.  Member benefits include on-line coupons, book and movie reviews, and time saving recipies.  WE HAVE BEEN ASSURED BY GENERAL MILLS THAT YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS WILL NOT BE SOLD TO OTHER COMPANIES.  Once you have become a member, all you have to do is enter the Box Tops Marketplace and start shopping.  By shopping through the marketplace, your on-line orders are flagged so that a percentage (up to 8% depending on the store) will be sent back to Coyle Middle School.

News from The State Board of Education

The State Board of Education is serious about education.  The Board has adopted policies that require students to pass the TAKS test in order to be promoted to the next grade.  Students who fail to meet expectations on TAKS in reading and math will be required to participate in many types of interventions, incuding summer school.  The new policies go into effect with the current 6th grade student's at Coyle.  Any 6th grader who does not pass the TAKS test in reading and math will be required to attend GISD summer school this year.  In order to graduate from  high school, all Texas students must pas the TAKS test in English, Science, Math, and History, which are administered in the 11th grade.  To be certian that all sutdents are successful on the TAKS, students participate in a series of practice test throughout the year.  These test are designed to let teachers and parents monitor student progress.  If the assessments indicate that students need extra help, we want to be certain that those students take advantage of the extra tutoring programs that we have available at Coyle before and after school.
